Multilingual website

Make your website multilingual: translate, then edit in place

Pick a language and the content of your site is translated in the background. Your site stays live the whole time, and any phrase the machine got wrong you fix right on the page — your edits are never overwritten.

Add a language — your site translates itself

Pick a language from the list and the CRM translates the texts on your pages in the background with Google Translate. Your site stays live the whole time: until the translation is ready, the new language shows a copy of the original.

  • 20 languages to choose from, including Chinese, Arabic, Hindi, Thai and Swahili
  • Translation never overwrites your edits: it only replaces text that still matches the original word for word
  • Switch a language off and visitors won’t see it — not in the switcher, not by direct request

How to make a website multilingual

There are three common ways. A translation widget translates the page in the visitor’s browser — quick, but search engines usually do not see those versions. Separate copies of the site for each language rank well, but every change has to be repeated in every copy. The third way keeps all languages of the same content side by side and lets the site show each language at its own address.

Sitecog works the third way. The texts of every language live together in the CRM; new languages are translated by Google Translate and then edited by people. Your site requests the language it needs from the content API.

For search engines, give each language its own URL (for example /de/), mark the pages with hreflang links and set the lang attribute. This part is done once by the site developer — the documentation has ready recipes.

Everything you need to run a site in several languages

  • Translation in the background

    Add a language and Google Translate fills it: texts, rich text, link labels and fields inside lists and cards. The same phrase is translated once.

  • Your edits stay

    Machine translation only writes into fields that are empty or still match the original word for word. Anything a person has fixed is left alone — even when you translate again.

  • Edit any language on the page

    Each field in the on-page editor has tabs for all languages. See the phrase on the real page, switch the tab and correct it.

  • Images and SEO per language

    A picture or a video can differ by language, and every page has its own title and description in each language — translated with one click.

  • The site never goes down

    A new language starts as a copy of the original and is replaced as the translation finishes. Switch a language off and it disappears from the API at once.

  • Chat that speaks the page language

    The live chat widget takes the language from the page: English, Spanish, German, Ukrainian, Russian or Chinese, and English otherwise.

A second language in three steps

  1. Add a language

    Choose from 20 languages, including Chinese, Arabic, Hindi and Japanese. The trial includes 2 languages, Basic 5, Pro all 20.

  2. Translate or copy

    Let Google Translate fill the new language, or keep a copy of the original and translate it yourself. Then polish the wording on the page.

  3. Show it on the site

    The site asks the API for the list of languages and the content in the right one. URLs, the language switcher and hreflang are set up once by your developer.

const headers = { 'x-crm-key': 'pk_…' };

// Languages switched on in the CRM
const langs = await fetch('https://back.sitecog.com/content/v1/langs', { headers })
  .then((r) => r.json());

// The same page in German, for /de/
const home = await fetch('https://back.sitecog.com/content/v1/pages/home?lang=de', { headers })
  .then((r) => r.json());
Live editing

Change your website exactly where customers see it

Visual editing the way it should work: open your website in the CRM, click a heading, price or image and change it right on the page. No clunky admin forms, no developer needed.

  • Text, images, video, lists and product cards
  • Pick an image from your storage — or just drag a new one onto the page
  • Works with any stack: React, Next.js, Vue, PHP or static HTML

Headless CMS with a content API — your site stays yours

We give you a REST content API, not a site builder. Your developer builds the site on any stack, and text, images and lists come from the CRM with a plain GET request. A page, a section or a single block arrives as JSON keyed by your own markers; blog posts come as a list.

  • Fetch from the browser on any domain, from your server or at build time
  • Every language in one response, or only the ones you need: ?lang=en,es
  • The public key is read-only, opens only your own site’s content, and can be revoked in CRM settings

Questions about multilingual websites

Which languages are available?

English, Chinese, Hindi, Spanish, French, Arabic, Bengali, Portuguese, Russian, Urdu, Indonesian, German, Japanese, Swahili, Marathi, Telugu, Turkish, Korean, Ukrainian and Thai.

Is machine translation good enough?

It is a good first draft. Google Translate fills the language in minutes, then someone who knows the language reads the page and fixes the wording right where it appears. Fixed phrases are never overwritten.

Are SEO titles and blog posts translated too?

The background translation covers the content of your pages. Page titles and descriptions and blog posts are translated with one click per field, so you can check them before they go live.

How many characters can I translate?

The trial includes 10,000 characters, Basic 220,000 and Pro 590,000 per 30 days. Text that was translated before is taken from the cache and does not use the quota again.

Does Sitecog create the URLs and the language switcher?

No, your site stays yours: the developer decides on URLs like /de/, adds the switcher and hreflang links. The documentation has ready recipes for that, including a fallback when a phrase is not translated yet.

What about right-to-left languages?

Arabic and Urdu are in the list and are translated like any other language. The right-to-left layout itself is set by your site’s styles.
